As a professional psychic medium with 13 years of experience, and 35 years in the metaphysical arena, I have witnessed both extraordinary experiences and the challenges that exist within this industry. Over the years, I have come across beliefs and practices that I do not consider genuine, and some that I believe are neither ethical nor helpful. I choose to focus on positivity, integrity, and staying true to my own path. I feel it’s always good to help others think openly and make informed decisions by sharing an honest perspective grounded in real-world experience.

Here are some common myths and misconceptions in the metaphysical and New Age Communities all over the globe.
No person has just one “Soul Purpose.”
Every person/soul has many experiences it wants to explore during a lifetime. Some may feel especially meaningful on a soul level, but we never choose one purpose or path before we incarnate. This is because our lives are made up of many aspects, including love, relationships, family, work, creativity, learning, spirituality, health, emotional well-being, and personal growth.
Also, what matters most to us changes over time as an adult. As we evolve, our interests, priorities, and desires evolve with us.
Having meaning to our life is not about fulfilling a single purpose. It’s about embracing the many experiences that make us human.
There are no required “life lessons” we must learn.
We are not here to spend our lives chasing endless “lessons” or trying to climb some spiritual ladder of achievement.
We do not incarnate on Earth to pass tests, fix ourselves, or learn required lessons with other souls. There is no pass or fail, and no cosmic report card. Our souls choose to return because they desire the experience of being human. Naturally, we learn from others and our experiences with them, but we were not “required” to do so because of karma or whatever.
Earth is not a classroom. It’s our playground.
The purpose to reincarnating is not learning lessons, mainly to deal with past karma, to gain enlightenment, or to avoid all hardships … The purpose is to connect with others, to love and be loved in return, to enjoy the natural world, to be creative and expressive, and to simply experience life on Earth as a human again.
The belief that our departed loved ones can become lost, trapped, suffering, or in need of rescue is a myth.
When a loved one passes, they naturally transition into a state of peace, healing, and unconditional love. They don’t require someone on Earth to save, locate, or assist their transition. We have had so many lifetimes, we’re always okay and happy after passing.
The Divine, along with our Spirit Guides and Angels, always know where every soul is, both during life and after physical death. We are too loved, supported, and watched over to become lost or suffer after we pass.
Also, there is no concept of judgment or punishment in ‘the Divine’, (God, heaven, the afterlife; whatever your description is).
- People who commit suicide or are murdered are not “somewhere else” or hurting in any way after death. We have each had so many lifetimes, so we’re never attached to how we pass when we leave each lifetime.
- We are all equally loved no matter what we did in life, including a very heinous person.
Any psychic medium who believes that souls can become lost, trapped, or harmed may be interpreting their experiences through the lens of their own religious, cultural, or personal beliefs, whether consciously or unconsciously. As a result, they may view spiritual experiences through a framework that assumes suffering, separation, or limitation after death, particularly in cases involving trauma, suicide, or unexpected loss.
NOTE: Unfortunately, some psychic mediums may use these fears to gain influence or profit from vulnerable people. My advice is simple: never pay anyone money to “help,” “rescue,” or “clear” a departed loved one or spirit. Whether they say it’s free or expensive to do this, treat it as a major red flag and walk away.
There is no such thing as spells, curses, or hexes.
The only power a ‘curse’ or ‘spell’ has is the power you give it. If someone tells you that you’re cursed or destined to experience hardship, and you accept that belief as true, it can influence your thoughts, decisions, and behavior. Over time, that fear can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
- For example, if someone ‘curses’ you with financial problems and you begin making choices based on worry, doubt, or scarcity, you may unintentionally create the very outcome you fear. Your beliefs shape your actions far more than any supposed curse ever could.
- No one can do a magical love spell to make you get back with them (or vise-versa), because this would negate your gift of ‘free will’ and that’s not possible.
No person could negate your gift of ‘free will’ because they are powerful, “evil” or for any reason.
The reason is because ‘The Divine’ chose for every human to be self-directed and in charge of themselves at all times by giving us the gift of free will – without any mystical interference possible.
You do not need “psychic protection.”
Every human is always supported by their own Spirit Guides and Angels, whose role is to help guide and love us. Fear gives power to the idea that someone or something can harm you psychically or energetically but that is a false belief. What is there to be protected from? Your gift of ‘free will’ is stronger than any outside influence. And no one would consciously or unconsciously consent to any negativity against them anyway, you are not defenseless.
You’re safe.
If you enjoy crystals, smudging, or other spiritual practices, continue using them because they bring you peace, comfort, and joy, not because you need ‘psychic protection’. These rituals can be wonderful ways to clear stagnant energy, release stress, and create a more positive atmosphere in your home after difficult experiences or challenging periods in life.
There is no such thing as hell, Satan, evil, bad entities, demonic possession, etc.
Many of these beliefs emerged in a very different historical and cultural context. Today, we have the freedom to approach spirituality with greater awareness, personal responsibility, and critical thinking. I respect everyone’s right to their own religious beliefs, but I encourage people to let go of fear-based ideas that do not serve them and focus instead on living an empowered, positive life.
Sometimes a person may not be aware that they are sensitive to spirits, who are departed Souls, so when they sense something it scares them so they start believing it’s bad, “evil,” or negative, but that is inaccurate thinking.
Some people, even with the best intentions, may interpret what they sense through fear rather than understanding.
If a person perceives a spirit or presence in the dark, at night, or in a way that feels unfamiliar, they may assume it is negative simply because they cannot immediately identify it. In reality, it’s usually a departed loved one who would never mean to startle you.
- These beliefs come more from movies and popular culture than from reality. Something unfamiliar can be startling, but fear should not be the first conclusion when encountering something you don’t yet understand.
- Also, some also worry “that communicating with an unknown spirit” will somehow “invite it in” or cause it to stay; none of that is real.
- There is also no such thing as any person, spirit, or “entity” energetically try to harm, attach, control, or feed off of you.
These are common misconceptions in the New Age/metaphysical community. Even if a psychic medium is an honest and stable person, if their false core belief is strong enough they will sincerely believe they are seeing/sensing something bad or evil because that is the only way they can interpret it.
People usually hang onto these beliefs because they serve some purpose for them, or someone they love or respect taught them these beliefs. That’s their choice, but don’t feed it or believe it.
People who honestly believe they are under “Demonic Possession” or under ‘demonic’ attack, alien influence, being taken over by some force, etc., are actually mentally ill and not understanding what’s happening to them.
Or they’re being told that there are these things happening to them so don’t believe it! Seek professional Mental Health Counseling services immediately.
To drink alcohol, use cannabis, or take any recreational drug enhances your psychic abilities? Absolutely not.
These substances do not make someone a clearer psychic channel. In fact, they can interfere with a person’s ability to receive and interpret information accurately because they alter perception and mental clarity. A clear mind is one of the most important foundations of responsible psychic work.
Historically, certain Indigenous cultures used sacred plants such as peyote or coca leaves within deeply respected spiritual traditions. These practices were part of cultural ceremonies, community bonding, and religious experiences that carried significant meaning and purpose. I find these traditions fascinating and worthy of respect for their cultural and spiritual significance.
However, that is very different from a psychic or healer conducting a professional session while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In my opinion, clients deserve a practitioner who is fully present, grounded, and clear-minded. Any psychic reading or healing session conducted under the influence compromises the quality, integrity, and reliability of the experience.
The belief that psychics, mediums, or healers are somehow “chosen,” more favored by ‘the Divine’, or possess extraordinary powers unavailable to others is a myth.
Spiritual gifts do not make anyone more important, more enlightened, or more deserving than anyone else. We are all equally connected to ‘the Divine’ and equally worthy of love, guidance, and support. True wisdom is grounded in humility, not claims or attitudes of spiritual superiority.
No psychic medium, healer, or spiritual guru receives special treatment, secret advantages, or exclusive access to wisdom from the Divine because of their spiritual gifts.
Every human has a birthright of constant access to their spirit guides, the Akashic Records, and their intuition whether they believe in it or not.
- A psychic medium or astrologer who makes daily, weekly, or yearly predictions is using them as a marketing tool, and there’s no judgment in that. But treating those predictions as unquestionable truth can veer into narcissism. With over 5 billion adults in the world, no system, whether tarot, astrology, psychic insight, or celestial events, can reliably predict what most people will experience on a daily or weekly basis. ‘Daily horoscopes’ have been around since the 1960’s.
NOTE: There are individuals that can be particularly harmful to people who are vulnerable, grieving, struggling with mental health challenges, or seeking guidance during difficult times … A trustworthy practitioner empowers you, not controls you.
No psychic or medium can tell you when or how you will die. That knowledge belongs to ‘the Divine’ alone.
If a psychic claims to know the age, date, or circumstances of your death, disregard that ‘information’. Such predictions come from ego and a desire to appear all-knowing than from genuine spiritual insight.
I believe there are “exit points” throughout our lives that we could leave this life, and most pass unnoticed. Others may be more obvious, such as surviving a serious accident that could have had a very different outcome.
Although, people througout history have had real premonitions about a family member or friend’s impending passing, but that is rare.
If a psychic, medium, healer, Reiki practitioner, astrologer, numerologist, or spiritual teacher presents themselves as all-knowing or charges extremely high fees, does that automatically make them the best? This is a myth.
The best readings are not are not defined by the practitioners ego, popularity, or rates. In fact, some of the most gifted practitioners are also among the most humble, grounded, and reasonably priced within their location.
- Experience and skill matter, but a highest rate locally does not automatically mean better service with psychic mediums. Conversely, the lowest rate in town doesn’t always mean most compassionate and genuine. What matters most is a practitioner’s skill, integrity, and professionalism – and the connection you make with them.
Readings, healings, and teaching are ultimately about serving and supporting others.
TIP: To choose a psychic medium or healer: first, look at websites and choose the psychic medium that resonates intuitively with you the most; then look at their rates after getting a vibe for them, then schedule the reading with the one you liked most if you can afford their session.
Be especially cautious of practitioners who encourage dependency in any way; ask for jewelry or barter of expensive services of yours; asks for payment needed for any ‘services’ to help or protect you during or after a session; or present themselves as ‘the chosen one’ or superior to other psychic mediums.
